Federal Government Extends HomeBuilder Scheme Into 2021

The Federal Government’s HomeBuilder program, which provides eligible owner-occupiers with a grant to build a new home or substantially renovate an existing home, has officially been extended to 31 March 2021.

The current iteration of the scheme was due to cease on 31 December 2020, however due to its success it has been given an extra three months’ life. The extension will be for building contracts (new builds and substantial renovations) signed between 1 January 2021 and 31 March 2021, inclusive, however this period will see a decrease in the dollar amount given to applicants from $25,000 to $15,000.

In what is welcome news for NSW residents, the property price cap for new build contracts in the state has increased from $750,000 to $950,000 meaning more property owners can access the scheme.
